Her Getting Ready

The morning of a wedding holds an intimacy the rest of the day never quite reaches: the quiet room, the dress on its hanger, the hands of the makeup artist, the veil lifted for the first time. "Her Getting Ready" is about that fragile, beautiful hour.

I photograph the getting ready quietly, in natural window light, saving black and white for the moments of pure feeling: the look in the mirror, the ring going on, the bouquet held a little too tightly. The small things (the perfume, the jewelry, the invitation) get portraits of their own.

My advice to every bride: get ready in the room with the biggest window, and keep only your closest people in it. Light and emotion take care of the rest.
